TTI TCB-880
Like most of the new radios being introduced, the TCB-880 is a "multi-standard" radio. This means that it is designed for use in most EU countries and you can select what country you are going to use it in, the radio then automatically operates on the legal bands for that country. This means that in countries that allow AM/FM operation, the radio even works on AM!.jpg)
The LCD backlight can be selected from 7 different colours!
The Alan 121 is a good quality basic CB radio ideal for use mobile. It does not have any of the fancy features of some larger radios, but does all you need!
A unique feature of this radio is the multi-colour illumination of the LCD display - you can choose from 7 different colours (white, yellow, violet, red, light blue, dark blue, or green), or turn the illumination off altogether.
The radio can be set for any of 11 frequency bands, to enable it to be used legally in all EU countries. In countries when AM is permitted it will operate on both AM & FM. It is a simple matter to change the country setting by holding a couple of buttons on the front panel while turning the radio on - you only need to do this once when visiting another country.
For use in the UK, the radio is 80 channels. You can switch between UK and EU bands by pressing and holding the AM/FM/LCR button for 3 seconds.
If the button is pressed briefly it acts as a "Last Channel Recall".
The microphone is the same style as used on other Midland models, however it has a matt finish rather than the usually high gloss (which always gets scratched easily).
On the top of the mic are channel up/down buttons. It does not have the third (UK/EU) button on it that some other Midland mics have.
There is an addition facility which allows you to have a "frequency" display rather than the normal "channel" display. I don't really know why anyone would want to do this.
This is done using a press button INSIDE the radio - making it awkward since you need to remove the casing to do it.
On the rear of the radio are standard 3.5mm jack sockets for extension speaker and external s-meter - although I don't know of anyone who uses an external meter (especially mobile!).
The construction is good, with a very tidy circuit board using many surface-mount components.
Overall this is a good basic compact radio, with the added advantage of being multi-standard if you intend to use it in other countries.

Although these radios can be converted to cover other frequencies for use in countries where these frequencies are permitted, conversion would make the radio illegal in the UK.
